Growing a Prosperous Business

As a business owner one of the most challenging jobs, you have is to hire workers who will work as a team and who are good at what they do, are loyal to your company and motivated to do a good job. This is especially difficult to do in this tight labour market. When staff see you addressing staff concerns in an honest way, they will become more committed to you and your company.
When you send workers out on a project, they represent your company. If they do a good job, then the client has a favorable impression of your company, and he will recommend you to others. That is how most of us grow our business – through referrals.
When these workers do a bad job, you will likely never hear from that client again.
It is a challenge to always know how your workforce performs when you are not there or to know what they think of you or how they feel about working for your company.
Many successful companies try to overcome this lack of information by periodically administering “confidential” questionnaires to their staff. If confidentiality is respected and staff feel it is an honest effort on your part, you will get valuable feedback. If feedback is critical, you cannot get defensive. I always tell people, “perception is reality”. If the feedback is accurate or not, it boils down to the same thing – you have to accept the findings, and it is your job to honestly look at where improvements are required and fix it.
